In the icon of the Mother of God and the Virgin Mary depicted Angel Gabriel dedicated to the icon of great feast of the Annunciation. The word "lady day" means a good, good news. The narrative of the events depicted in the icon, set out in Chapter 1 of the Gospel of Luke.

The angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Nazareth to the Blessed Virgin Mary with the good news that God has chosen her to be the Mother of the Savior of the world, "You have found favor with God, and behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Most High, and His kingdom will have no end. " Mary asked the angel, "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy offspring shall be called the Son of God." Then Mary humbly replied: "I servant of the Lord, let it be to me according to your word" (Luke, chapter 1, verses 26-38).

Annunciation was the beginning of the salvation of the human race, in the person of the Blessed Virgin Mary as Christians gained merciful Intercessor and Hodataitsu for them before her Divine Son. Although the solemn celebration of the Annunciation was introduced in the IV century icon, depicting the events appeared in the Christian Church much earlier.
